Dr. Shank is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Finance in the Farmer School of Business at Miami University. At Miami, he teaches introduction to business finance and international business finance.

Dr. Shank's research focuses on behavioral finance and determinants of financial decision-making. He has co-authored one scholarly book on the impact of biology on investing decisions and published more than ten papers in prestigious scholarly journals such as the Journal of Behavioral Finance, Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Finance, Review of Behavioral Finance, and Journal of Economics and Human Biology. His research has been covered in the financial press, including MarketWatch and the Institutional Investor. His book was also a 2020 American Book Fest Best Book Award Finalist.

Dr. Shank serves on the finance and investment committee for the Greater Oxford Community Foundation. Outside of the classroom Dr. Shank enjoys spending time with his wife and son, traveling, and sports. Prior to a career in academia, he pole vaulted throughout high school and college. A few of his accolades include breaking the freshman national record, breaking the Indiana high school state meet record, winning a high school national championship, being ranked #2 on the IAAF World Junior rankings in 2007, and winning the Gatorade Indiana Track & Field Athlete of the Year award. Additionally, he was a 3-time Indiana Outdoor State Champion in the pole vault, making him the 26th athlete in Indiana history to 3-peat in a single event (10th since 1950), and placed third at the Indiana State Meet in the 4x100 relay twice.​ These accolades earned him an induction into the Indiana Track and Field Hall of Fame.

Dr. Shank earned his Ph.D. in finance from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. He received his MBA from the University of Findlay and a B.S. in Finance from Virginia Tech with a concentration in investments.
