Dr. Shank is currently serving as an Assistant Teaching Professor of Finance at the Farmer School of Business at Miami University. Within this role, he teaches introduction to business finance and international business finance.
His research endeavors predominantly center around behavioral finance, corporate finance, and corporate governance. Noteworthy among his contributions is a co-authored scholarly book exploring the intersection of biology and financial decision-making. Dr. Shank has also authored over fifteen papers, garnering publication in prestigious academic journals such as the International Review of Financial Analysis, Economics Letters, Finance Research Letters, Journal of Behavioral Finance, and Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Finance. His work has not only been recognized within academic circles but has also gained visibility in the financial press, featuring in outlets like MarketWatch and the Institutional Investor. The accolades for his book include its recognition as a finalist in the 2020 American Book Fest Best Book Awards.
Beyond academia, Dr. Shank actively contributes to the finance and investment committee of the Greater Oxford Community Foundation, managing assets exceeding $10 million. Outside the professional realm, he enjoys spending quality time with his wife and son, traveling, and watching sports and golfing. His favorite travel experiences are South Africa, Kenya & Tanzania, Uganda, Thailand, and Yellowstone.
Before venturing into academia, Dr. Shank excelled in pole vaulting, achieving remarkable feats throughout high school and college. Notable accomplishments include breaking the freshman national record, winning the Indiana State Championship three times, setting the Indiana high school state meet record, winning a high school youth national championship, and ranking second on the IAAF World Junior rankings in 2007. He also competed in the 4x100 relay which placed third at the Indiana state meet twice. These accolades earned him the Gatorade Indiana Track & Field Athlete of the Year award. His athletic career continued at the collegiate level, securing the University of Findlay outdoor school record and earning NCAA indoor All-American honors. These achievements merited his induction into the Indiana Track and Field Hall of Fame.
Dr. Shank's academic journey led him to earn a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Prior to this, he completed an MBA at the University of Findlay and obtained a B.S. in Finance from Virginia Tech, with a concentration in investments.
